Have you been wondering about the way we give birth? Do you feel like women are losing their power and control over their own body? Do you feel called to work with pregnant women and become part of the circle of birthkeepers? Do you want to bring birth back to your community? Do you want a deeper understanding of what it would mean to be a midwife, both spiritually and practically?
If YES, join us for this comprehensive retreat and training in San Marcos La Laguna on the shores of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.
This intensive course offers a deep and unique dive into the world of childbirth and midwifery. Guatemala is one of the few countries in the world that still has a strong culture of traditional midwifery. You will learn directly from a passionate homebirth midwife and childbirth activist from Europe, as well as from traditional Guatemalan midwives (comadronas).
This course is designed for individuals passionate about birth and midwifery or interested in the field of pregnancy and women's health. It is also open to current birth workers such as doulas who desire further education in their field. If you are simply interested in midwifery and women's health, particularly through a global and intercultural health lens, then we encourage you to join us. No prior healthcare experience or midwifery training is required.
During this course, you will receive a combination of theoretical lecture-based learning coupled with practical hands-on skills. You will be part of a woman s circle and create discussion evenings through challenging ourselves in the way we think about birth. By the end of this course you will have a deep insight in the history and politics of childbirth. You will have explored the wonder of creation and fertility trough birth art and guest lectures from experts. You will have gain insights in how to be at the side of a pregnant woman. You will know how to to conduct a prenatal intake and perform a basic prenatal and postpartum visit. You will value the art of touch as our hands and hearts our the biggest gift we can offer in our birth work. So let us explore together and create and challenge your personal path!
